ABOUT

Yixuan Li (李逸轩) is a scholar, writer and artist from northern mainland China. She is currently a second-year MA student in Cinema Studies at New York University and is completing her  Advanced Certificate in Museum Studies.  

 

As a scholar, Li focuses on the intersections of early moving images, Global South cinema, media archaeology and visual modernity. Her research interests also include radical media from 1980s East Asia, historical films, Chinese material culture history and fan labor.  

 

As a writer, Li's work spans both fiction and non-fiction. In fiction, she is a signed author for Jinjiang Literature City and a fanfiction writer with nearly 50,000 followers on Weibo. In non-fiction, she served as the editor-in-chief of Jingshi Scholar, the Beijing Normal University student press corps. During her undergraduate years, Li also contributed festival reviews, film critiques and industry observations to the China Film Archive and Houlang Publishing House.

 

As an artist, Li has experience in theater and documentary production. Recently, she rediscovered her family’s home movies from over 20 years ago and is considering creating an autobiographical family documentary based on this footage and her previous works. Additionally, she plans to develop a film essay next semester inspired by her recent research on Li Hung Chang’s interactions with global early cinema.
